Nica News from

Ed & Linda Baker

May, 2009

As we wrote in our April newsletter, Ed’s father, Jim Baker, passed away on April 29, 2009.  The family came together to “clean out” the house; and since Ed’s Mother had passed away in 2003, this was truly a complete emptying of all the contents.  Ed’s sister & brothers were present, as well as most of Jim’s grandchildren, and great grandchildren to divide the household items.  We shared lots of memories recalling “who’s that?” looking at old pictures; and touching things from the lives of Jim & Martha Baker.

For us, our daughters, son-in-law, and grandson came to Fernandina Beach, FL to share in the family event.  It was Austin’s first time at the beach, and he had a ball!

After the family & all the boxes & furniture were gone, we stayed to get the condo ready for rental.  With the help of Ed’s brother Cliff, we tiled the kitchen, den, & downstairs bathroom.  We repainted the entire condo, had the carpet stretched, and then had the carpet cleaned.  We were blessed in finding a wonderful renter for the condo.

We were able to visit with Aldersgate UMC in Montgomery, AL.  This is the very first church we visited, with Al Vom Steeg, in 2000; the year we began our journey as missionaries.  It was great to reconnect with some of our original supporters as well as meet new friends.

We went back to Atlanta to get ready to leave for Nicaragua.  We had a few days to sort, and repack things we wanted to take to Nicaragua.  We even had a chance to attend a Gwinnett Braves baseball game at the new Gwinnett baseball ballpark.  The Gwinnett Braves is the farm team for the Atlanta Braves.

We returned to Nicaragua on June 1st – we’ll give you all the details of what we found in our next newsletter.

We ask for your continued prayers as we seek God’s will in our new home and new ministry in Nicaragua.
