January 2006 Adventures
We finished up our short visit to Atlanta with a quick tour of the downtown area to see all the changes. The growth in Atlanta is overwhelming, with lots of new things to see.

We also took time to visit and eat with lots of friends. We have lots of great food here in Paraguay, but we still have our favorite Atlanta foods we like to enjoy while in the states.
It’s always amazing to us that we step off the plane in Paraguay and immediately get back into the swing of things. This year was no different. Our initial arrival was a very pleasant surprise. We were expecting to be “hit in the face” with the extreme heat. However, God blessed us with a rainy day. Our missionary friends met us at the airport with our truck, and off we went – back home to Santaní.
We were home unpacking for 1 day before heading back to Asuncion. We were anxious to bring some of our container goods to Santaní. We’ve only been able to get one Land Cruiser and trailer load, but the remainder of the stuff in Asuncion is our new drilling equipment. We should be able to get that in early February.
The next day we went out to the Susannah Wesley School work site to see the construction progress. The men were working on the porch and making the brick columns. We are hoping to be able to get at least 2 classrooms ready for students by the end of February. It will all depend on the weather and availability of materials.

One thing to say about the weather – it’s HOT! On January 8th in downtown Asuncion, the temperature reached 120º! Thank goodness we weren’t there. Here in Santaní it has only reached 110º, but stays around 105º every day. We just pray for rain to cool things down. We’ve had such dry weather that some of our pastors have lost as much as 50% of the crops of cotton and sesame. It has been a difficult year for our farming community.

Lastly, we wanted to share some old friends with you. They never seem to get tired of just sitting and people watching in Decatur from a bench in front of the Courthouse. |
