December 2007 Adventures

We forgot to mention last month that before leaving Paraguay at the end of November, our last project was to begin construction of a new parsonage for Pastor Roberto and family at Tacuapi.  In February 2007, (6 photos down, right side, showing us having services at the parsonage during the church's renovation) we had a photo of the old parsonage – 1 room with a dirt floor for 3 children plus parents.  This new home will be a great improvement!

The front porch will be a great place to share terere during the hot summers.

These 3 cute “trouble makers” should keep the new house hopping!

Just as soon as we got into the states, we took a trip to Nicaragua.  We have 2 friends serving in Nicaragua, so we took the opportunity to access their needs for a water well drilling team.  Nicaragua is a beautiful country, but very well served with many mission groups.  We found an agency that drills wells, using similar technology that we have.

We had a great 7 days of visiting some of the churches Ron & Angi Hopkins serve.  They are working with MEFEL, which has about 70 churches around Nicaragua.  We attended the high school graduation of the young people who started with the MEFEL ministry as 1st graders!

They began the ceremony with a church service, then walked to the school for the actual graduation.

We found cute little boys even in Nicaragua!

We returned to Atlanta, and began Christmas decorating in earnest!  We were able to have Ed’s dad, Jim Baker, with us for Christmas Day this year.  This is the first time in 7 years that we have been home long enough to have him visit.  Not only did we have Jim with us, but also Ed’s brother & his wife, cousins, and our daughter Kara.  It was a blessing to be with family during the Christmas season.

Just after Christmas, we spent New Year’s Eve in San Francisco, CA, with our older daughter and her husband, Rhian & James Gracey.  They are expecting our first grand baby – a boy, March 22nd.  We couldn’t be happier for them and are anxious to be first time grandparents.  We will be staying state-side until the birth of the baby, so please contact us if you would like for us to visit your church or church group.  We love to share stores about our ministry in Paraguay.

Before we end 2007, we wanted to share some pictures of how the construction is progressing at the Susannah Wesley School located in Quinta Linea.  We have finished the 6 classroom addition, and have started the renovation of the original small building.  We’re taking off the roof to raise the walls, adding a bond beam at the top of the walls, and changing the front of the building to face the new structure.  The 3 rooms in the small original building will become an office, a library, and a kitchen.  We hope to finish this project in 2008!

A perfect place for the teachers to share terere and watch the kids.

We hope each of you had a wonderful Christmas and will have a blessed new year!
