April 2006 Adventures
|
This has been movie month for us. What a blessing – we’ve shown the Jesus video several times, as well as some of the stories from Genesis – all in Guaraní! Besides helping with other projects, we were able to sneak in a well this month! Busy & exciting April. We think we’ve mentioned before how active a Korean Methodist church from New Jersey is here in our Northern District. They are beginning construction of a new technical school in the community of Yrybucua. We had a ground breaking ceremony on April 4th, and many of our pastors, as well as President Pastor Pablo and the town officials attended. There is lots of anticipation and hope for this new project.

Movies were asked for at many of our churches. We had 7 different “movie nights”. For our churches in homes, we hang a king size white sheet on the outside of the house. We watched the Jesus movie in Guaraní; parts of the Genesis Project, also in Guarani; Max Lucado’s Hermie in Spanish; plus an animated movie about the prophets of the dessert. It has been really fun to watch the faces of those watching the movies. At one home church, we had movie night on Easter night. The church members had gone door-to-door to invite the neighbors. Over 80 people attended, and several accepted Jesus Christ into their hearts. We have some Gideon New Testament Bibles we give these new believers.
The well we drilled this month was at Oga Lata (officially called Nueva Asunción). This is our newest church in the Northern District, built since we have been living in Santaní. We dedicated this church July 2, 2005. It was a fairly easy well, only 148’ deep. We are still in the building stage; but the actual well is finished, including the PVC casing.

The later part of April we had a couple’s retreat in Asunción. All our Northern District pastors and their wives attended. This is an opportunity our pastors seldom receive. Imagine leaving a family of up to 11 kids to spend time with your spouse! It was a blessing for all.
The last few days of the month we had a problem with the well in Y’Apy. This is the church at the Guaraní Indian reservation. We think the water level dropped below the pump and burned out the pump. We believe the reason is the filter screen may be clogged. We have installed a working pump and set up a temporary system so that they can at least fill buckets of water; yet they are not able to fill and use the elevated tank. Please pray that we resolve this problem soon.
We will let you know in May how we resolve the Y’Apy issue.
